If you have a home alarm system installed in your house, most of the time you can just sit back and let your home automation services work. However, you are going to want to put a little maintenance into your alarm system to ensure it works as effectively as possible.
Clean The Sensors
Most alarm systems use a variety of sensors on your windows and doors to keep your home secure. Check out each of these sensors and make sure they are nice and clean. If they are dirty, use a damp cloth to clean them off. Dirt on the sensors could interfere with their operations.
Also, make sure the windows and doors are operating properly. If you have a window that will not shut or a door that doesn't line up properly, your sensors may not work properly. Fix any windows or doors that are not operating properly to ensure your sensors continue to work properly.
Update Your Alarm Code
Do not stick to the alarm code for a long period of time. Sticking to the same code for years will end up in a lot of people, other than you, learning and knowing your alarm code. For your own security, you want to change your alarm code a couple of times a year. This will ensure other people don't know your alarm code or are able to easily figure it out based on the worn down keys on your alarm code pad.
When you update your alarm code, use a disinfectant wipe to clean the pad where you enter your alarm code. You touch this pad all the time, and it can get quite dirty if you never take the time to clean it.
Clean Your Cameras
If you have security cameras set up around your home, you are going to want to take steps to keep them clean. If they are not clean, you are not going to get a good image from them.
You should clean and wipe down the lenses on your security cameras at least a couple of times a year. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the lenses on your security cameras.
You should also keep the body of the security camera clean as well. It is an electronic device, and like most electronic devices, does not function well when it is covered and clogged up with dust.
To keep dust off the outside of your cameras, just gently wipe them down with a cloth. They should not require any deeper cleaning than a simple wipe down.
Keep your alarm system working well by keeping your sensors, cameras, and key pad clean.
